To ‘catch the rainbow’ in a cup it is really quite simple. You will need the following:

We have a sweet 'cloud' of Cool Whip at the end of the rainbow
- 6 boxes of Jello gelatin (or preferred brand) in the following colors
* Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple
- Yes there are 7 colors in the spectrum, ROY G BIV, but I have yet to find a good ‘Indigo’ in a Jello.I have mixed purple with other colors and gotten close. Just think it looks great without it and the purple and blue blend well into each other. Besides It never lasts long enough for any body to notice!
You will also need:
- 10 oz. clear plastic cups (24 will do)
- measuring spoons
- measuring cups
- mixing bowl
- an empty shelf in your refrigerator
- TIME
- Cool Whip (if desired)
Now the fun begins!
Mix the first Jello (Purple), which will go at the bottom of the cup (bottom of the rainbow), As directed on the box.
Once mixed pour 3 Tablespoons of the liquid into each cup.
Refrigerate for proximately 4 hrs. or until Jello is set before you start mixing the next color, Blue.
You will continue these steps until all 6 colors are in the cup 3 Tablespoons at a time and using the colors from Purple backwards to Red.
TIP
If you are short on time you could follow the ‘quick set’ directions on the box instead. Be aware that if doing this you will need to move a little quicker when pouring your 3 Tablespoons of Jello because while the Jello sits in the mixing bowl, it will start to set and make it difficult to pour. Also This may cause your finished product to have bubbles between the layers of color.
By following the ‘quick set’ method, you will only need to refrigerate your cups for proximately 40 minutes in between layers.
Have fun and try this with your kids!!!

- Cloudless for the purists
* I used the ‘quick set’ method for the first half of these cups and then switched to the ‘regular set’ method for the second half. You can see the difference in textures between the two. As I explained above, bubbles may form with the quick set method in between the layers while if using the regular set method the transition between layers is much smoother.

This is so cool. Great for B-Day parties
Thanks Sandie! I made them for my son’s 1st grade class for their spring celebration and handed them out with colorful mini pinwheels. They loved it!
